school pride scholarship essay

My school, Oregon College of Art & Craft, is perfect for me. I am going there for a Fiber’s degree, which is a pretty rare degree. There are probably less than ten schools in the Unites States that offers a fibers degree which makes it pretty exclusive! I will get to learn traditional craft skills, such as using a loom, creating my own paper from pulp, and hand dyeing fabrics. I just love the feeling of using my hands to create new original works of art.  I will also learn about sustainability by using recyclable fibers, which is perfect for the location of my school, because everyone in Portland recycles by city law. I want to create new things from used materials and fibers. I will have the opportunity to create interesting sculptures, and also learn how to work with metals. My school has a wood studio for building and wood working. The studio itself looks as if it was built by hand. The room smells of sawdust and hard work. I am so excited to work in a small studio environment with other artists and come up with new projects. I am happy to go to a smaller school rather than a big university because I will get to know my teachers and classmates well. I think it is important to form a connection with your professors because they can teach you so much about the field and they can open new doors for you. I could never sit in a classroom with 500 plus students. That is so boring. Besides, I’m not really into the crazy frat party lifestyle, and I am glad that I can work with other focused determined people. My school is so beautiful; it is in Portland on top of this hill, surrounded by woods and beautiful plants. My school has an organic cafĂ© that has new interesting items available for lunch everyday, and there is also a gallery and small gift shop available to the public. The gift shop features crafts from former and current students. My school has such a home-y cottage vibe, I love it. I can’t wait to start this semester! My school will help give me the knowledge to start my own line of wearable art, and run my own business. I’m hoping to meet other artists that are interested in collaborating, and to have gallery shows in Portland.
